The typical Japanese meal consists of a bowl of rice (gohan), a bowl of miso soup (miso shiru), pickled vegetables (tsukemono) and fish or meat. While rice is the staple food, several kinds of noodles are also used.

Most usual foods

Sushi: Consists of raw seafood placed on or in vinegared rice.

Tempura: Deep-frying seafood, vegetables, or prawns in vegetable oil after applying a coating of egg, water, and wheat flour.

Sashimi: Fresh, raw seafood or meat thinly sliced and served with a dipping sauce like soy sauce.
